Misfit Report;

 

March 15th

Played the Trucks on Wednesday night.  This would be a match up of two of hotter teams in the SCBL right now.  

Game 1 would not disappoint as it seemed that neither team had their pitching in top form.  The Trucks would jump out to an early lead by rolling the extra base hit numbers, a lot.  All of the Trucks early hits came off 11, 22, 33, or 66, 2 of those would result in singles, the rest would be all doubles as there was a total of 17 extra base hits between the two teams.  I am getting ahead of myself here a little, so the Trucks would take an early 3 - 2 lead by the end of the 3rd inning.  Both teams would score a pair in the 4th and the Trucks added 1 in their half of the 5th before all hell would break loose.  The Misfits exploded for 7 in the bottom of the fifth on their way to a 15-10 victory.  Of the 17 extra base hits, 7 were HR's (4 for Misfits).  Final line; Misfits 15 R 15H 0E   Trucks 10R 20H 2E

Game 2 has one of the better pitching match ups of the season as the Misfits send Noah Syndergaard to the mound.  The Trucks would counter with Jake Arietta.  Both pitchers would go deep into the game as the offensive antics of game one were none existant.  Misfits put 2 on the board in the 4th and another one in the 5th.  Syndergaard was masterful keeping the Trucks hitters guessing until the would break through for a single run in the 6th.  Trucks get a couple of runners on in the 9th with 2 outs and the Misfits go to Luis Avilan, their lone lefty, to get the final out and preserve the game for Thor.  Not today...  Trucks tie it in the ninth and force overtime, just as it should be.  Trucks go quietly in the 10th, not so for the Misfits and Leonys Martin would single with one out in the bottom of the 10th and then score on Tommy Josephs double to the left center field gap to make Alex Colume the winner in this one.  Misfits 4R 11H 0E    Trucks  3R  7H  2E       A total of 9 hits went for extra bases, only one of those would leave the yard thanks to Jonathan Lucroy.

Game 3 has Teheran up against Kluber.  Once again the Misfits come from behind to win it on the strength of 4 home runs and some timely hitting.  The Trucks jumped out early again scoring 4 in the 3rd and adding an insurance run in the 6th to go up 5 - 2.  The Misfits would get to Kluber in the 7th to tie it though and score the winning run off Osuna in the 8th to take a 3 - 0 Series lead.  A total of 7 extra base hits in this game tell the story of just how lopsided the dice were rolling.  The Misfits 4 XBH's all left the yard, the 3 XBH's of the Trucks all went for doubles.....   Final line; Misfits 6R  6H  3E     Trucks 5R  9H  0E.


Game 4 is future wild man McCullers against the ageless control of Colon.  Bartolo was on his game this day as he would scatter 10 Misfit hits over 8 innings giving up only one run.  McCullers couldn't find the plate consistently enough to make it out of the 5th.  Only 4 XBH's today ( 2 doubles by Misfits and 2 Homers by the Trucks).  Final line:  Misfits 1R  10H  0E    Trucks 5R  7H  0E (first game with on errors!)

Game 5 is a D game, Davies vs DeGrom.  Trucks scored early and often touching Zach Davies for 7 runs in just 5 short innings.  Jake DeGrom would cruise through the first 5 innings only giving up a single run to the mighty Misfit lineup, but the Trucks manager had been here before and was not comfortable with just a 6 run lead.  Sure enough, the Misfit bats would come alive in the sixth scoring a quick 4 runs before the Trucks would settle in and shut them down, temporarily.  The MIsfits would come roaring back again in the 7th chasing DeGrom with a two out score and then greeting Trevor Cahill with another run to tie the game up.  The tie would not last very long though, and the Trucks came right back with a pair of their own runs to retake and hold a lead.  Final score:   Misfits  7R 13H 0E   Trucks 9R 9H  0E    A total of 11 XBH's in this one, 5 of which left the yard.

Game 6, Wainwright vs Gausman.  Misfits were in control of this game from the 2nd inning on as Wainwright was masterful taking a shutout tow outs into the 9th!  Only 5 XBH's in this one, 4 double and a home run by the Misfits Robinson Cano would contribute to the scoring.  Final score:   Misfits 5R  12H  1E   Trucks 2R  7H  2E

The Misfits would collectively hit a whopping .306 in the series belting 12 HR's and 15 DBL in route to this 4 - 2 series victory.  Highlights see the Misfits 1st pick really come to life and show the promise that made him the 2nd overall pick in the draft.  Trea Turner only hit .385 with a .462 Slg% and .407 OB% stealing all 7 of the Misfits stolen bases for this series.  Troy Tulowitzki seeing the future open before his eyes contributed a .364 AVG and .727 Slg% belting a pair of homers while playing his usual stellar defense.  Tommy Joseph's bat started to come to life as he hit 5 doubles, 2 home runs, and 8 RBI's in helping the Misfits see just a glimpse of their future.  It was a good thing the bats were awake as the pitching suffered just a little allowing 5.09 ER/G and a .281 batting ave against.  Alex Colume didn't allow any runs in his 3 appearances, notching a pair of victories for the Misfits.  Julio Teheran was dominate until his defense let him down as he held the Trucks to a single earned run
