The Wildlings and Pond Scum faced off in Arlington this weekend. It was rematch of the first series, which the Wildlings dropped 1-5. First, let's review that series.
Game one saw the Wildlings put up a 4-spot in the top of the first, as Suarez launched a grand-slam off of Trevor Williams. The Wildlings added a run in the 6th to lead 5-0.
The Scum got two back on a two-run HR by Gregorius in the bottom of the 6th to cut the lead to 5-2. That lead held until the bottom of the 9th, when Boegarts pinch hit for Harper and blasted
a three run shot with two outs in the the 9th to tie the game. The Scum scored again in the bottom of the 10th to win the game 6-5.
Game 2 was a pitchers duel that saw the Scum scratch out a 3-1 win on 4 hits.
Game 3 saw the Wildlings battle to a 3-3 tie in the 8th, only to see Mookie Betts homer to win the game 4-3.
Game 4 was a titanic duel between Anibal Sanchez and German Marquez. Each starter managed to go 13 scoreless innings,
but the Wildlings managed to win the game in the bottom of the 14th on an Alfaro triple, followed by a run scoring Aguilar single to win 1-0.
Buoyed by their hard fought home win in game 4, the Wildlings took a 1-0 lead in game 5 on a two-out double by Wong in the 4th.
However, that was all the offense they could muster, as the Scum came back with 3 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th, eventually winning 6-1.
In game 6, the Wildlings found some offense led by Jesus Aguilar's 2 run HR in the first to lead 3-1 after one.
The offense exploded again in the 5th with back-to-back jacks by Diaz and Suarez to take a 7-1 lead.
The Scum then came up with 2 in the 6th, 3 in the 7th, 1 in the 8th, and two more in the 9th, overcoming a 7-1 deficit to win 9-7.
The tie-breaking runs scored with two out in the 9th on doubles by Heyward and Swihart.
Now for the recent series:
Game 1 was more of the same as the Scum rolled to a 6-2 win. The game was close, 3-2 after 7,
but as in almost all the other games this series, the Scum scored one in the 8th and 2 in the 9th to pull away.
Game 2 saw the Wildlings finally show up from Castle Black. An 11 hit attack helped the Wildlings build a 6-0 lead, and they held on for a 6-2 win.
Suarez had 3 RBI and a home run to lead the Wildling attack.
In Game 3, the Wildlings got behind early 6-0, but scored 4 in the 6th to close the gap to 6-4.
Unfortunately the offense went predictably cold, and the 6-4 score was the final.
Game 4 saw the return of 'The Marquez'. Coming off of his 14 inning shutout last series,
Marquez continued his domination of the Scum holding them to 2 hits, and shutting them out 3-0. The Wildling offense was led by home runs by Suarez and Ramos.
In Game 5 the Wildlings took and early 1-0 lead in the 3rd, only to see the Scum score runs in the 4th and 6th to lead 2-1.
The Scum continued to add runs in the 7th to lead 4-1. Going into the 9th, the typically dormant Wildling offense had accumulated 4 hits and the single run in the 3rd.
Dickerson managed a one-out single to get things started. Morrow came on to hold the lead for the Scums. Aldemys Diaz fanned for out number 2.
The Wildlings then rolled off four straight hits, the last one a pinch hit double by Scott Schebler to take a 5-4 lead. Brasier came on to close out the 9th for the save.
The Scum came out roaring in game 6 to take a 5-0 lead after three innings. But the Wildlings battled back with 2 in the 4th and 2 in the 5th to cut the lead to 5-4.
However, similar to earlier games, the bats went silent and the Scum went on to win 8-4.
Ended the season series 4-8 versus the Pond Scum. Now sitting at 14-22.
