Scrubies fan Blog;
June 7th
After the Lizards beat the Scrubs 10 - 5 and 6 - 0 in games 1 and 3,
even die hard Scrub fans were ready to raise the white flag on their
season with another loss.
But then something happened that hasn't
happened all year. Late inning heroics at the plate
and on the mound in games 4, 5 and 6 (two of them in extra innings)
allowed the Scrubs to salvage the last three games and finish 4 - 2
against the Lizards.
In Game 4, although the Scrubs - par for the course prior to Sunday -
gave up two runs in the bottom of the 9th allowing the Lizards to tie
the game,
a pinch hit double by Manny Machado in the 10th followed
by two walks and a sacrifice fly gave the Scrubbies
the win in the 10th.
In game 5, the Scrubbies had 3 hits and no runs through 10 innings -
but Scrub pitchers scattered 7 hits over 10 and the game went into
the 11th 0-0.
The Scrubs pulled the game out with doubles by Matt
Carpenter and Hanley Ramirez in the top of the inning,
and a 1-2-3 bottom of the 11th by the bullpen.
In game 6, the Scrubs went into the 9th trailing 7 - 6, but a one out
walk was followed by a two out walk, and then a two out, three-run
blast by Justin Morneau won the game.
At 26 - 28, the Scrubs playoff chances remain slim and none. But
their die hard fans point out that of their 28 losses exactly one half -
14 - have been by a single run,
and in 5 others they were shut out (I'm
not even going to mention the additional 6 games
in which the Scrubs scored a single run). Stay tuned as the 'Cudas,
also hoping to win a wild card slot, are up next.
May 4th
The Scrubs won game one (3-0) and won big in game two (14 -5) to move
within 2 games of .500. Then in the next three games, the Scrubs scored a
total of 3 runs in 31 innings
(but winning one of these games - come
on, it is the Scrubs after all).
The RedWave took game three 1-0 despite Scrub pitchers giving up a
single hit in the last 8 1/3 innings. Game four was equally painful -
the Scrubs lost 2-1 in 13 innings.
That's right, the Scrubs scored a
single run in 22 innings. In game five, the Scrub
bats came alive and pounded out a 2-1 victory to take a 3-2 series
lead.
But the heart breaker was game 6. After the Scrubs took an early 3-0
lead the RedWave tied the game in the third and took a 5-3 lead in the
fifth.
Two runs by the Scrubs tied the score in the 6th, and the score
remained tied until the RedWave scored a run
in the top of the 12th to take the lead.
But the Scrubs pushed across a
run in the bottom of the 12th to tie the game again. Then the RedWave
scored two runs in the top of the 14th on Adrian Gonzalez' 5th and 6th
RBI's of the game.
And again, the Scrubs came
back to tie the score with a classic scrubbie rally consisting of two
runs across the plate on an error, a walk, a balk, a single by their
pitcher Michael Wacha (every bench player and reliever had already been
used) and a fielder's choice. The RedWave then
scored two more runs in the top of the 15th.
And the Scrubs then came
amazingly close but fell short of the most incredible comeback in their
manager's history. A double, a single and an intentional walk loaded the
bases
with no outs in the bottom of the 15th.
A fielder's choice got in one run, but the game ended when Wacha was
unable to come through a second time with the game on the line.

Special report ... special report ... special report ...
Confounding the experts' preseason predictions, the Scrubs are poised to challenge for the number one pick in next year's draft. How?
After the first three series of the season, role players Avisail Garcia, Andrew Susac and Arismendy Alcantara are a combined 0 for 16.
Regulars Matt Carpenter, Hunter Pence, Derek Norris, Manny Machado, Brandon Crawford and Brayan Pena in over 240 combined at bats are hitting a collective .161,
(special props to Pence, who despite having 3 14's on his card and 65 at bats does not have a single base on balls).
Yes, you read that right - 9 out of 16 position players on the team are collectively hitting .151.
Hitting a spectacular 67 points above these under performers is Hanley Ramirez at .218.
Jayson Werth is hitting a comparatively solid .234, but far below the dangerous DJ LeMahieu who at .243 is one of the most effective bats in the Scrubs' lineup.
Only Justin Morneau is hitting anything like expected at .296, but it as it turns out he is finding it incredibly difficult to drive in runs without anyone on base. Who knew?
Stay tuned as the Scrubs continue their drive to the cellar this Saturday against the Misfits

Historic power outage in Chicago darkens Scrubs' season!
There is no joy in Chitown following the Scrubsâ recent series against the Trucks.

Game 2: Scrubs score 1 run on 5 hits (all of them singles) and lose 6-1.
Game 3: Scrubs score 2 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits (5 singles; 2 doubles) and lose 7-2.
Game 4: Scrubs score 2 runs on 6 hits (5 singles, 1 double) losing 3-2 (score was 2-2 going into the 8th inning).
Game 5: Scrubs score 1 run (unearned) on 1 hit and lose 6-1.
Game 6: Scrubs lead 2-1 going into the 8th inning when they hit their first (and only) HR of the series to salvage one game, winning 8-1.
